Provide a short introductory clause in the text prior to mentioning the article itself or else follow the citations with an author or article title in parenthesis to let people know it is cited. For example, you could do an intro like, "In John Smith's article featured in the Town Post he states..." or follow the citation with documentation like, "the findings were conclusive and true (Smith, Town Post)." If you have a certain format such as MLA, AP or Chicago to adhere to check with the format to see if there is a particular way to follow or precede citations in text.
Include a "works cited" section following your work to show exactly what paper and when the cited work was done. Depending on the writing format you are adhering to or if your professor or teacher has a specific format, check with that before formulating your works cited.
Include in the works cited the article you are citing. In whatever format you are working it is most important to include the newspaper article's author, the publication of the article, article title and when it was published along with the page and location of the article in the publication. Again the order of this information will depend on the specific format in which you are working, but most formats require that all of this pertinent information be included. If there is no article author simply list the article title making sure to include the publication and when it was published.
