Health Risk Assessment Courses

Health Risk Assessment Courses involve the evaluation of a selected environment to determine what, if any, health risk exists. The assessment may involve a workplace with the potential for toxins which will limit productivity and cause worker illnesses. It may involve an evaluation of all workers at a particular place of employment. The purpose of a course is to teach the techniques for making the health risk assessment.
  1. Academic

    • The School of Public Health, Environmental Health Sciences at the University of California at Berkeley lists a course known as PH 220C, Health Risk Assessment, Regulation and Policy. This course which meets for two, two-hour lectures per week, introduces the basic scientific components of environmental and occupational health risk assessment. It also discusses the policy context that governs the decisions to make the assessment. Risk assessment for toxic chemicals are discussed in detail along with various methods to make that assessment. In addition, environmental and health regulations are covered along with their costs and benefits.

    Health Education

    • Mayo Clinic offers its Health Assessment, which promotes behavioral changes as the key to improving the health of the general population and controlling health care costs. This course is available for select populations or work places. It provides organizations with the tools to identify health risks, intervene and then track progress all towards the goal of changing unhealthy behavior.

    International

    • RA-Courses, a program introduced in Europe, focuses on training professionals to make risk assessments relating to the use of chemicals. The program was designed to gather knowledge and make evaluations concerning chemical use in Europe.

    Corporate

    • Large businesses have investments in their employees and have a stake in the employees' continued good health. Healthy employees have greater productivity, fewer lost days of work and lower health care costs. A good health risk assessment course provides corporate officers and supervisors with the tools to implement the necessary programs in their place of business.
