Canadian Photography Schools

Canada has many post-secondary institutions that offer a variety of current degree programs, including in the arts. The artistic and commercial field of photography is available for study at many of Canada's colleges, universities and technical schools. Obtain a degree, diploma or certification in photography or digital from institutions located in cities such as Montreal and Vancouver.
  1. Quebec

    • Canada's province of Quebec sits in the eastern part of this North American country. Located in the town of Westmount, Quebec, is Dawson College. Along with many degree opportunities in the arts and sciences, the school offers a three-year program in professional photography. Montreal, Quebec, is home to Canada's Concordia University. This large university was attended by more than 40,000 students during the 2009-2010 school year and offers a BFA photography program.

    Ontario

    • The Canadian province of Ontario has a number of institutions of higher learning that offer studies and degrees in photography. Humber College is located in the city of Toronto. Its School of Media Studies and Information Technology offers a creative photography program and assists with work placement. The School of the Photographic Arts lies in Canada's capital city of Ottawa, Ontario. This institution, founded in 2005, offers an intensive photography program that combines the study of fine arts with commercial applications.

    Alberta

    • Located in the city of Calgary, the Alberta College of Art and Design offers a well-rounded major in photography. With smart classrooms and state-of-the-art studio spaces, the school strives to be one of the top-ranked North American programs. The University of Calgary's Continuing Education Program provides certification with an emphasis in photography. The Certificate in Visual Design specializing in Photography can be completed in just a couple of years.

    British Columbia

    • The city of Kelowna, British Columbia, is home to the Centre for Arts and Technology. The school offers an immersive digital photography program that is also available at their other campuses in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Fredericton, New Brunswick. The Vancouver Institute of Media Arts in Vancouver, British Columbia, also has a digital photography program and a diploma program that can be completed in just one year.
