American University's School of International Service is the largest school of international relations in the United States. Located in the heart of Washington, D.C., the program has over 3,000 active students, including PhD candidates. The school has over 60 faculty members, and students from 135 countries travel to study there every year. American University has an impressive track record for internships, offering opportunities to work with the United States Department of State and Peace Corps as well as numerous exchange programs with countries such as Japan, France and Costa Rica. The Woodrow Wilson School of International Relations at Princeton University was founded in 1930. The school is located in Princeton, New Jersey. Graduate students at this program focus on both domestic and international affairs. Students typically take classes focused on economic issues abroad, such as development in Third World countries, quantitative analysis for political research, and international trade and finance. Over 85 percent of graduate students attending the School of International Relations attain employment in the field after graduating. Over 90 percent of incoming graduate students receive financial aid from Princeton.
The Edmund A. Walsh School of International Affairs at Georgetown University is the oldest school of international relations in the country. Founded in 1919, the school is located in Washington, D.C., providing students excellent internship and job opportunities after graduation. The school has six different M.A. programs, ranging from Eastern European Studies to Security Studies. The School of International Affairs has over 500 current M.A. students from 70 different countries.
The Ford Dorsey Program in International Policy Studies at Stanford University admits an average of 20 to 25 students each year. The program is based in Menlo Park, California. The school has a strong international presence, with 50 percent of its admitted students coming from countries abroad. The program offers six courses of specialization including democracy, development and rule of law, and international negotiation and conflict management. In order to be a successful candidate in International Policy Studies, students must have taken classes in calculus-based statistics, macro, micro and international economics.
