• Students attending Herzing College benefit from the choice of two programs focusing on medical coding: a diploma program for those who wish to seek employment as soon as possible and an Associate of Science degree in medical billing and insurance coding. Upon graduation, students from either program will be eligible for employment in a variety of fields, including medical billing, medical coding and insurance coding. Those with the Associate of Science degree likely will have more opportunities. Prospective students can expect to attend Herzing College from 12 to 24 months, depending on the program. The medical billing and coding diploma is designed specifically to aid graduates in preparing for entry-level positions in a variety of settings. Although the program is considered fast-paced compared to most, it covers all topics necessary for a career in medical coding. As of June 2010, Remington College offers its medical billing and coding diploma program at 15 campuses in Texas, Tennessee, Louisiana, Colorado, South Carolina, Arkansas and Alabama. • The medical billing and coding specialist diploma program at the Institute of Technology provides students with a course of study that includes the legalities and ethics surrounding the medical profession, as well as the skills necessary to become a leader in the field of medical coding.
