Contact professionals on your campus. Whether you are a high school or college student, there are teachers and professors who will be able to offer guidance. If the professor can not help you directly, he may be able to refer you to someone else or suggest a helpful guide book. The guidance department or student aid department at your school may also have suggestions for local resources.
Visit the library or bookstore. There are many great books designed to help students and professionals write excellent essays. No matter the type of essay or the subject matter, you are likely to find a book that suits your needs. Some books offer detailed information about the fundamentals of writing an essay, while other books give you examples of good essays and a general guideline to follow.
Research help on the Internet. The Purdue Online Writing Lab offers extensive help, and is a well-known and trusted writing guide. The Guide to Grammar and Writing also covers many areas of writing. You can also email your essay or outline to friends and family members who are skilled at writing and may be able to offer suggestions.
Hire a tutor. Check the phone book under "Education" and "Tutors" or look on announcement boards at your school to locate a local tutor. Tutors also are available online. Tutors are available for any subject and some offer their services for free through your school. Other tutors may charge a nominal fee for the extensive advice and help they can offer. They can work with you through the entire process, or just read your completed essay and help you revise it.
