How to Write a Critical Analysis Conclusion

When assigned a critical analysis essay, students should provide their personal judgment about a work's strengths and weaknesses. The introduction should give an overview of the entire essay, usually ending with the thesis statement, your personal judgment that will be supported in the body paragraphs. By the time students arrive at composing the conclusion, they might feel lost and not have anything else to say, yet critical analysis conclusions remain essential to successful essays.

Restate your thesis that expresses your overall evaluation about the work. Do not copy and paste the same sentence in the introduction. Express the same idea in synonyms.

    • 2

Summarize the main ideas in the body paragraphs within the closing. Synthesize the essence of your critique in total, unlike individual body paragraphs that focused on one specific idea. Never mention an idea not developed in the body paragraphs.

    • 3

Place your analysis in context of others. Do you agree or disagree with the consensus judgment about the work? Provide a quote from an expert in the field who agrees with your assessment.
