Assess the grammar. Review the written prose for sentence structure, use of adjectives and adverbs, verb tense and scholarly voice.
Analyze the use of punctuation. Determine if end and interior punctuation are appropriate, whether quoted material is properly cited and words are accentuated properly.
Determine effectiveness. Assess how well the student connects arguments of equal quality (coordination) or those of unequal quality but related (subordination), orchestrate parallelism, place proper emphasis on topics of importance and interject variety in presentation of arguments.
Review their diction. Assess the student's choice of words in sentences, evaluating appropriateness, exactness, directness and spelling.
