Locate the scoring rubric in the Teacher Observation Guide. Circle the descriptor on the rubric for Reading Engagement. Add the points and write the total on the front of the Teacher Observation Guide. The Reading Engagement score is for teacher information only and does not affect the overall score.
Circle the descriptor for each section of the Oral Fluency rubric. Add up all of the points and match the total points to the correct column on the Teacher Observation Guide. Enter the score on the front page of the Teacher Observation Guide.
For the Comprehension section, circle the descriptor that best describes the student's responses. Add all of the points to determine under which column the total falls. Enter the score on the front of the Teacher Observation Guide.
Determine the overall score for the student. To score Independent, the student must score in the independent range on the continuum for Oral Reading Fluency AND Comprehension. For instructional, the student must score in the instructional range on the continuum for Oral Reading Fluency OR Comprehension. An Advanced score must have an Oral Reading Fluency score AND Comprehension score within the advanced range on the continuum.
