Introduce each other. When you are assigned an online group assignment, it is helpful to know the other members of your group. Establish a system of communication. Discuss with other group members through the discussion boards on the school learning system how to communicate on issues related to the assignment. This could include setting up a chat time that is convenient for all group members, and having a group locker where the group can upload work for the assignment. According to the American Intercontinental University, "Make sure that all your group's members are comfortable with whatever setting you choose for your virtual meetings."
Allocate tasks and deadlines for completing the group assignment. "Once you have agreement on what the project will be, break the tasks up and delegate them to each person. Make sure each person understands what they'll be responsible for and when to have it finished," advises Jennifer Williamson, a columnist at Distance-Education.org.
Set up a time frame for making deliberations on research done by all group members. During this time group members should upload their research and offer opinions and suggestions on the portions of the assignment done by the other group members. This will ensure everyone has input into every aspect of the assignment, regardless of it being completed in parts by individuals.
Submit the individual drafts to the group and make the final corrections. Consensus should be made as to which member of the online study group gets to compile and submit the assignment. According to the Deakin University website, "Don't forget to leave time for formatting, proofreading, preparing contents tables and bibliographies and submitting the assignment. To be fair to the person undertaking the task, allow at least three days for this."
