Texas Online Library Science Programs

Although the expected demand for library science graduates is expected to grow slower than average for the next 10 years, there is still growth in the industry. Library science majors find information for students and other researchers. They may also conduct research for professionals such as doctors, lawyers, and scientists as well as students. Three universities in Texas offer online library science degrees.
  1. Sam Houston State University

    • Located in Huntsville, Sam Houston State University has several online programs in library science. The master's program in library science is accredited by the American Association for School Librarians. Students must complete an internship and prepare a portfolio prior to graduation. Sam Houston also offers a school librarian certification program for students who already have a master's degree in library science. A certificate in Children's and Young Adult Literature and Youth and Children's Library Services is also available.

    Texas Woman's University

    • Accredited by the American Library Association, the master's degree program in library science at Texas Woman's University in Dallas is also 36 credit hours. Like the program at Sam Houston State, Texas Woman's University requires a practicum with a university library or a library in a public school for a student to graduate. Students must take a final examination and complete a portfolio before graduation as well. Courses for the master's program cover different types of libraries as well as research tools such as sources of information and research techniques.

    University of North Texas

    • The University of North Texas also has a master's degree program accredited by the American Library Association. North Texas offers two different master's degree programs in library science. The Master of Science in Information Science covers archival studies, information technology and information organization.
