Online Degree Programs in Texas

According to a 2009 article in the U.S. News & World Report, more than 4 million Americans enrolled in at least one online class in the fall of 2008, up from less than 2 million in 2003. Although distance education programs have been around for decades--beginning with the correspondence courses that flourished once postal services became established and universal--online degree programs only recently exploded as technology became more widespread and higher-education institutions decided to reach out to non-traditional students to bolster enrollment and tuition income. Students in Texas now have a number of options for online degree programs, whether they want to pursue bachelor's or even master's degrees.
  1. The University of Texas at Arlington

    • Located in the heart of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) boasts a robust online education program, with undergraduate degrees in criminology and criminal justice, and general education and graduate degrees and certifications in business administration, public administration, education, and ESL (English as a second language). UTA online-degree faculty utilize a number of different pedagogical tools, including the Internet, videoconferences, VCRs and online course delivery platforms such as BlackBoard and WebCT. International students living overseas may also take advantage of some program offerings. Program requirements differ in duration, delivery and materials.
