East Carolina University's (ECU) Department of Nutrition and Dietetics offers an online Master of Science (MS) degree in the field of dietetics. East Carolina is an established university that has emerged in recent years to become a leading institution in online education with a wide variety of degree plans.
In addition to the MS degree, ECU offers a dietetic internship program that prepares students for work in the field and for meeting licensing requirements. The MS program requires 33 credit hours for completion and can be pursued in one of two tracks: with or without a thesis. Courses of study include research methodology, biostatistics and management and human nutrition in metabolism and physiology, among others.
The internship program offered by ECU is a non-degree program that requires a bachelor's degree prior to admission. The program offers three areas of concentration: clinical nutrition, community nutrition and food service management.

This program is the result of an ongoing joint effort between Kansas State University and a number of other universities such as Iowa State University, the University of Nebraska, Colorado State University and Oklahoma State University.
Students choose which school they wish to receive their degree from at the beginning of the program but can take online courses from any of the schools involved in the collaboration. Kansas State offers the widest selection of courses within the conglomeration of schools.
The degree program requires 36 credit hours for completion. Of these 36 credit hours, nine hours are required in the areas of research methods, statistics and current issues in the field of nutrition and dietetics.
