CFP Online Programs

The Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards sets the minimum educational requirements for certified financial planners. Students who successfully complete a CFP program can pursue a career as a financial planner, financial analyst or financial consultant. These online CFP programs meet board requirements and prepare students to take the CFP examination.
  1. New York University

    • Students in New York University's online CFP program can opt to complete the program at their own pace or to be led by an instructor in a live, online format. The self-paced option is best for those who have some professional experience. NYU's program is designed to be completed in nine months but those who are in the self-paced program may finish sooner. Courses include fundamentals of financial planning, financial planning process and insurance, investment planning, income tax planning and retirement planning and employee benefits.

    The Florida State University

    • The Florida State University online certificate in financial planning program is registered with the CFP Board of Standards and prepares students to provide timely and accurate information in financial planning's key areas. Each course lasts for 10 to 11 weeks. Classes include an introduction to financial planning and cover topics such as insurance, investment, income tax, retirement and estate planning.

    California Lutheran University

    • California Lutheran University has an online MBA in financial planning program that prepares students for the CFP certification exam. The program is offered throughout the year and is divided into five terms that last eight weeks each, making it possible for students to complete the program in less than two years. The program consists of 16 courses, including statistical analysis for managers, managerial economics, behavioral sciences for management, business ethics, law for business executives, tax management and strategy, risk management and insurance, employee benefits and retirement planning and principles of estate planning.
