Online Georgia Masters in Special Education

    • Valdosta State University has an online Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree in special education for general curriculum. This program is designed to prepare individuals who are newly licensed as teachers of students between pre-kindergarten and grade 12 with disabilities and who are being taught in the general curriculum area. Students are not required to attend any on-campus meetings, but have the option of arranging group meetings at their convenience. Students in this program will take courses that include entry to education, integration of instruction and management, reading and applying research in special education and teaching reading.

    Georgia Southern University

    • Georgia Southern University has an online Master of Education degree program in teaching and learning that is designed for those who already have their initial teaching certificate or for those who are interested in pursuing the instructional improvement area of concentration without the option of teacher certification. The third concentration area is in special education and is meant for students who hold their level four teacher certificate. Students in the special education concentration area are required to take courses that include learning theories and applications, introduction to augmentative language, methods for mild disabilities and perspectives on characteristics of mild disabilities.

    North Georgia College and State University

    • North Georgia College and State University has an online Master of Education degree program in special education. This program holds its accreditation by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). This program accepts 50 students each year and is designed to prepare students to teach those who are between pre-kindergarten and the 12th grade in the general curriculum program. Students will not be required to attend any group online or face-to-face meetings. Students are able to choose the sequencing of the courses, but will be required to complete the capstone course at the end on the program in the final semester.
