MiraCosta College offers a course in preparatory chemistry through distance education. This introductory course is designed to prepare students for further study in the sciences at the college level. Students learn about the history of the discipline, graphs and measurements, atomic and quantum theory, chemical reactions, Lewis structures and the Kinetic Molecular Theory of Gases.

The University of California at Los Angeles provides four courses in chemistry through distance learning. Designed for nonscience majors, "Introductory Chemistry" explores basic concepts in chemistry such as protons and proteins. An introductory course in biochemistry teaches students about the structure of metabolism, enzymes and the structure of proteins, carbohydrates and lipids. "Atomic and Molecular Structure, Equilibria, Acids and Bases" is an introductory course in physical and general chemistry concepts intended for premedical and allied health students. Lastly, "Skin Care Ingredients for Cosmetic Professionals, Part II" is a specialized trade course that explores the effects of beauty products on human skin. It is offered in conjunction with the Society of Cosmetic Chemists and Beauty Industry West.

Mission College provides a general chemistry course that is designed for pre-professional students who are pursuing further career studies in a science-related field.
