What do you need in order to become a pediatric nurse after high school?

Education

* Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university

* Passing score on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN)

Experience

* At least two years of experience working as a registered nurse (RN) in a pediatric setting, such as a children's hospital, pediatric clinic, or school health clinic

Certifications

* Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN) from the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB)

* Additional certifications, such as the Certified Registered Nurse (CRN) or Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP), may be required for some positions

Skills

* Strong clinical skills in pediatric nursing, including assessment, diagnosis, and management of common childhood illnesses and injuries

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both with children and their families

* Ability to work independently and as part of a team

* Strong organizational and time management skills
