Choose your school. Many junior and community colleges offer degree or certificate programs in medical assisting. According to the AAMA, to earn a certificate you must complete your education at an institution accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools.
Meet your school's basic requirements. Most programs will require you to have a high school diploma or a G.E.D, and pass a basic knowledge exam in mathematics and English. Talk to the financial aid department to see if you qualify for assistance. A medical assistant program in Florida lasts approximately twelve months.
Compete your coursework. You can expect to take classes in administration, computer literacy, blood drawing, pharmacology, scheduling and more. Once your coursework is completed and you have earned your certificate or diploma, apply to take the AAMA's certification test.
Pass the AAMA's certification test. Visit the AAMA's website to download an application. Pay all fees and request an examination date. Study hard and pass the exam. Once you receive your certificate, you will be a certified medical assistant and can look for employment in the state of Florida.
