The Baylor College of Medicine is located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston. The medical school was founded in 1900 and is currently affiliated with eight teaching hospitals throughout Texas. The school generally accepts around 175 new students each year.
The Baylor College of Dentistry is located in Dallas, Texas. It is affiliated with Texas A&M University. The school formed when Baylor took over the Texas state dental school in 1918. There are approximately 500 students enrolled in the program at any given time.
The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine is located in Lubbock, Texas. The school was formed in 1969 and has since expanded to offer programs in a variety of health sciences. All students spend the first three years on the Lubbock campus and afterwards can continue their studies at either Lubbock, Amarillo or Odessa.
In 2009, Texas Tech opened the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine in El Paso, Texas. There are currently about 100 students enrolled.
The Texas A&M University System Health Science Center College of Medicine is based on the main campus of Texas A&M, with classes offered at branch locations in Temple and Round Rock. Each year the school accepts 150 new students into the program.
Texas A&M is also partnered with Baylor in the Baylor School of Dentistry.
The Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine is located in Ft. Worth and is part of the University of North Texas Health Science Center. It was founded in 1970 and currently enrolls approximately 650 students. The school is the only osteopathic medical school located in Texas and consistently ranks high in primary care. It offers a wide variety of specialty programs including aerospace medicine.
The University of Texas Medical School is located in Galveston, Texas. It was founded in 1891 with an initial class of 50 students, and currently has an enrollment of over 2000. An estimated one out of every six doctors practicing medicine in Texas graduated from the school.
The University of Texas School of Dentistry was founded in 1905. It is located on the Houston campus of the University of Texas. The school offers 10 programs in dentistry, with a faculty of over 84 full-time professors. Student enrollment averages about 300 students at any given time.
