Georgetown University founded its law school, known as the Georgetown University Law Center, in 1870. As of 2009, the school had about 2,000 students. Classes in the part-time degree program meet in the evenings. The program requires eight semesters and one summer to complete. Former Sen. George Mitchell earned his law degree through Georgetown's part-time program. In 2010, "U.S. News & World Report" ranked Georgetown first among part-time law programs.
