How to Get a Canadian Law Degree

Upholding the law is a commendable and honorable profession. Every country has different procedures and requirements for earning a law degree. To become a lawyer in Canada, you need to earn high marks, work with qualified lawyers, study specific courses and meet other requirements. Canada has fewer than two dozen certified law schools, and the application process is competitive.

Maintain a high grade point average during your pre-law university career. Your GPA must be consistently high during the required schooling period. There are Canadian law schools that accept you even if you have only attended two years at university, while others prefer that you hold an undergraduate degree.

Achieve a competitive score on your Law School Admission Test (LSAT). The LSAT is the exam you must take to gain entrance to law school. It consists of five sections that include analytical reasoning, reading comprehension, two sets of logical reasoning tests, and an uncensored section which is not included in the final computation of the scores. This uncensored section is used to pretest new questions that may be used for the next LSAT exams.

Collect letters of recommendation from respected figures that you know personally and have worked with. The recommendation letters may include a description of your traits as a worker or community projects in which you have been involved. The letters should basically provide an assessment of the qualities and capabilities that will help you succeed in your future law career in Canada.
