Quebec Law Schools

There are two legal systems in Canada -- common law and civil law. In the province of Quebec, McGill University's Faculty of Law teaches both. Its program also offers courses in French and English. The four French-speaking law schools in Quebec exclusively teach civil law. These include University of Montreal, University of Quebec at Montreal, University of Sherbrooke and Laval University.
  1. McGill University

    • According to the Law School Admission Council, McGill University's Faculty of Law is the oldest in Canada. Its main campus is in the heart of downtown Montreal. Undergraduate options include a minor, major and honors degree. The school also offers joint programs -- master of Bbsiness administration/law and law/master of social work. Deadline is Nov. 30. LSAT scares are not required.

    University of Montreal

    • The undergraduate law program provides a basic grounding in law and serves to prepare students for graduate studies or professional practice. Its master's and Ph.D. programs are open to students who hold an undergraduate law degree. Some courses are given in English. Deadlines vary per program.

    UQAM

    • UQAM is located in the heart of downtown Montreal. The law school is a joint program with the Faculty of Political Science. The program has a political slant and is focused on international law and global issues. It is a public, French-language university. You will have to speak fluent French to attend this school. Deadlines vary per program.

    University of Sherbrooke

    • Located in Sherbrooke, the law program offers bachelor's and graduate degrees. You must speak fluent French to gain admission into this program. The program is unique in that it offers a combined bachelor of law and master of business administration degree. All classes are offered in French. Deadlines vary for Quebec residents, non-Quebec Canadians, and international applicants.

    Laval University

    • Located in Quebec City, the faculty of law offers a bachelor's degree and certificate, and master's programs in notary, business, international and transnational, environmental, sustainable development and food safety law. All classes are offered in French.
