Texas Pharmacy Schools PCAT Score Requirements

The PCAT stands for Pharmacy College Admission Test, which tests a student's ability to succeed in pharmacy school. It consists of a writing segment and five multiple choice sections including: verbal ability, quantitative ability, biology, chemistry and reading comprehension. All pharmacy schools belong to the AACP (American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy) require this exam for admission to their PharmD. programs.

    • The University of Houston does not state a specific score range needed on the PCAT or previous class statistics; however, the school does recommend scoring in the 75th percentile in all test categories.

    Texas Southern University

    • Texas Southern, in Houston, does not list a profile or average of their students' PCAT scores. The school requires that you take the PCAT within one year of your target admission date. USPHARMD.com lists the 2006 incoming class's percentile range as 19-52.

    Texas A&M Health Science Center

    • The Texas A&M Rangel College of Pharmacy (Kingsville) incoming class in the Fall of 2009 average PCAT score was in the 73 percentile. In 2008 the average percentile was 77. Additional statistics for prior years can be viewed on the college's website.

    University of the Incarnate Word

    • UIW in San Antonio does not list average PCAT scores of incoming classes. The program graduated its first class in 2010. USPHARMD.com lists the 2006 incoming class's percentile range as 20-50.

    • The University of Texas at Austin class of 2009 average PCAT percentile was 76. In 2008, the average was the 81 percentile. Previous years statistics can be viewed at the university's website.

    Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center

    • The Texas Tech University (Amarillo) Health Science Center's incoming class of 2009 average PCAT percentile was 71. In 2008, this score was 79. Previous class's scores can be found on the center's website.
