Graduates of the Master of Science in Information Science program at SUNY Albany find employment in libraries, archives and government agencies. The program consists o 42 credits and students can select from one of five concentration areas, such as Library and Information Services or Information Systems and Technology. All students in the program take required courses in research methods and fundamentals of information technology as well as a for-credit internship. They then complete courses related to the selected area of concentration. Prospective applicants need a bachelor's degree and must submit GRE scores along with transcripts and three recommendations.

UCLA's master's program in library and information science is available to students who have a bachelor's degree. Additional admission's requirements include a personal statement, resume, three recommendations, completion of computer programming and statistics courses and GRE scores. Students who enter the MLIS program select from specializations in informatics, archival studies or library studies.
