Read the GRE information documents on "An Introduction to the Analytical Writing Section of the GRE General Test," "Preparing for the Verbal and Quantitative Sections of the GRE General Test" and "Math Review." These documents are available on the GRE website under "Prepare for the Test." Subject test reading materials can also be downloaded from the GRE Subject Test "Prepare" site.
Download PowerPrep software from the GRE website. Complete the survey required prior to downloading. Enter first and last name and email address. The practice book "Practicing to take the GRE General Test" is available on the GRE website along with ScoreItNow!, for web-based Analytical Writing practice that includes automatic scoring. Take book-based practice tests with simulated time constraints for each section. The exam is two and a half hours long and composed of three sections.
Sign up for a local GRE test course. Test preparation courses are available in most cities through companies such as Kaplan and The Princeton Review. Courses offer test-taking tips and strategies. Personal instructor guidance helps students overcome specific weaknesses that surface while taking practice exams.
Study the strategy for answering questions that you miss. Brush up on any key knowledge areas, such as calculus, that you may have forgotten since college that contribute to lowering your score.
