The University of Pennsylvania is an Ivy League school located in Philadelphia. According to the FAQ page, its Wharton business school admits about 500 of its 5,500 applicants. Graduates earn a Bachelor of Science in Economics with one or more concentrations and an optional minor. The Wharton school was ranked number one on the U.S. News and World Report 2010 undergraduate business school rankings and number four on the Bloomberg Businessweek 2010 rankings.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, widely known as MIT, is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. MIT's mission as listed on its website is "to advance knowledge and educate students in science, technology, and other areas of scholarship that will best serve the nation and the world in the 21st century." They do this by taking the focus off grades and competition and focusing on collaborative learning. Undergraduates do not choose a major department until the end of their freshman year. About 10.7 percent of the applicants are accepted each year. The Hass School of Business at University of California-Berkeley is the third ranked undergraduate school on the U.S. News and World Report 2010 business school rankings and the sixth on the Bloomberg Businessweek rankings. All applicants to the Hass School of Business must meet a minimum eligibility requirement with specific coursework. UC Berkeley requires that all students obtain a liberal arts degree, and so students must take coursework in seven departments and fields.

The University of Virginia's McIntire School ranked second on the Bloomberg Businessweek 2010 undergraduate business school rankings, being outranked only by the University of Notre Dame. It tied for six on the U.S. News and World Report 2010 rankings with the University of Texas-Austin, and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. The school offers degrees in accounting, finance, marketing, management, information technology, and international business. McIntire reports that about 40 percent of its business students attend graduate school.
