The Best Australian Universities for an MBA

A Master of Business Administration (MBA) is an academic qualification that is recognized around the world. People who possess this qualification are sought by the biggest companies and MBA graduates can command large salaries and normally gain rapid promotion. Australia is home to several of the world's top MBA schools, with three in the top 100.
  1. Australian School of Business

    • The Australian School of Business was the result of the 2007 merger of the Faculty of Commerce and Economics at University of New South Wales (UNSW) and the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM). In 2010 it was ranked as the top MBA school in Australia and the 36th best in the world in the Financial Times Global MBA Rankings. The school is based at the Kensington campus of UNSW in Sydney and offers not only MBA programs, but undergraduate courses and other postgraduate programs of study under nine departments. These include Accounting, Actuarial Studies, Banking and Finance, Business Law and Taxation, Economics, Information Systems, Marketing, Organization and Management and Strategy and Entrepreneurship. The school offers students its AGSM MBA program, which is geared towards preparing students for leading roles in both government and business. The form of learning includes both seminars and lectures combined with case studies and team-related problem-solving. The Australian School of Business states that 20 percent of its graduates are in vice-president positions or higher.

    Melbourne Business School

    • Melbourne Business School has been offering MBA programs since 1962 and in 2010 was the largest business school in Australia. It was also ranked 63rd on the Financial Times' Global MBA Rankings in 2010, putting it behind one place behind Australian School of Business in the list of Australia's top business schools. As of 2010 the school had 55 full time faculty members and 690 students studying in a number of postgraduate programs. These include MBA, MBA Master of Marketing, Master of Management Innovation, Innovation Programs, Postgraduate Diploma in Management, Postgraduate Diploma in Management, Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing, International Master of MArketing and Master of Management. The school is spread over four campuses in Melbourne, Mt Eliza, Sydney and Beijing in China.

    Macquarie Graduate School of Management

    • Macquarie Graduate School of Management (MGSM) is based in the Macquarie University in Sydney and dates back to 1969. It offers its 1,800 graduate students a range of MBA and doctoral research programs in campuses at Macquarie University in North Ryde and at its campus in Sydney city center. In 2010 the school was ranked 99th in the Financial Times Global MBA Rankings. According to MGSM the same publication also ranked the school as the fifth best in the world for accounting and eighth in the world for finance. MBA programs can be completed in a year with full-time study, or over three years part-time. Entry requirements include an undergraduate degree along with a minimum of five years' working experience in a managerial position.
