Call the school to find out whom you need to address your letter to. You can also visit the school's website and look for a specific department head, coach or program director to see whom specifically you should write to. Make sure you get the correct spelling of the person's name and the appropriate address to mail it to.
Write your introductory paragraph by giving your reader an idea of who you are, where you go to school and any relevant activities in which you are involved.
Explain your accomplishments in your second paragraph. Sell yourself to the school/program. Highlight your academic or athletic high points, whichever is most relevant to what you will carry over into college.
Write your third paragraph by stating what you like best about the school/program. Explain how your strengths will complement their school. Let your reader know why you will be a good match for the school. Do not gush too much about the school; just be sincere.
Request a response in your final paragraph as well as your interest in an interview or tour. List your contact information. Thank them for their time and consideration.
Close your letter with "Sincerely," a space for your hand-written signature and your typed full name.
Edit your letter of intent and have someone else proofread your writing. Correct any errors.
