Dublin City University offers a doctorate program in psychotherapy. Students participate in the four-year program part-time. The central focus of the doctorate program is to enable students to use an inquiry-based method to work with patients. During the first two years of study, students focus on classroom learning. Research projects and building a clinical portfolio take up the majority of the final two years of the program. In order to complete their portfolio, students must spend a minimum of 200 hours working with clients. Applicants must have professional work experience in the field and submit a research proposal.
