Music Technology Degrees

A music technology degree trains students in the production and engineering of music. Through the study of technology, students learn how to create high-quality recordings and other productions.     • Foothill College, located in Northern California, offers an associate's degree program in music technology. Students can study Pro Tools, the music business and digital video.     Virginia Tech

    • The music technology program at Virginia Tech is an all-encompassing program designed to give students everything they'll need to succeed in a career in music technology. Students study technologies involved in music composition, performance, production, instruction and more. Courses include such areas as soundtrack and effects composition, computer music and multimedia design, and audio technology for music. Students get to work in the recording studio facility, which is 3,500 square feet and has high-quality microphones, pre-amplifiers and a Sony DMX-R100 digital mixing console.

    Indiana University-Purdue University

    • Students can earn a master's of science degree in music technology at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). The program prides itself on staying up-to-date on new and emerging digital arts technologies. The master's degree program trains students in multimedia production techniques, computer-based music technology and multimedia and interactive design. Course work includes digital sound design for multimedia, podcast music techniques, music technology methods and research methods in music and multimedia.
