A diesel technician certificate program equips you with the basic technical knowledge needed for an entry-level job in diesel technology. Programs usually include a specialized math course and courses will see you in the classroom as well as the laboratory for hands-on experience.
Programs vary depending on the institute you are studying at and can last between six months and a year full-time, and up to two years part-time. After obtaining an associate's degree you can earn a Bachelor of Science in Diesel Technology. Bachelor's degree programs stretch over four years and cover more advanced subjects like hydraulics and pneumatics, advanced fuel systems, diesel electrical and electronic systems, repair and maintenance welding and technical editing. Some general courses included in this bachelor's degree are communication, mathematics, natural sciences, social sciences and technology.
Extra courses focusing on specific career directions are advantageous.
