Averett University in Danville is one of the nation's top four-year baccalaureate colleges. Like BC and Averett University, VIC is a small private college that enrolls approximately 550 students each year. Founded in 1884 as Southwest Virginia Institute in Glade Spring, the college outgrew its facilities and moved to Bristol in 1891.
