Community Colleges in Ontario With Food & Beverage Courses

The Association of Canadian Community Colleges has more than 25 member institutions in Ontario. Some of these schools offer food and beverage courses, with a variety of degree and certification opportunities for those moving into the cooking industry or going on to culinary school.
  1. Humber College

    • Humber College offers a program in Recreation and Tourism that lasts two semesters. The college estimates that 46.7 percent of Canadians employed in the tourism business work in food and beverage services, and it strives to prepare students to join that group in restaurants, bars, hotels and other attractions.

Humber College features seven kitchens, a wine-tasting lab, a mixology lab and a student-run fine-dining room that is open to the public. Classes include Wine Appreciation and Food Pairing, Customer Service Skills and Food Service, Safety and Sanitation.

The course at Humber also includes a nine-week internship in which students work in a restaurant, bar or hotel in the Toronto area to get real hands-on experience. Many students go directly into the workforce from this program, or into degree programs such as the Hospitality Management diploma program.
