Sign Language Interpretation Programs

As of 2010, there has been increasing interest in the study of sign language interpretation, as the number of jobs in the field has opened up. According to the United States Department of Labor’s predictions for 2010 and 2011, job prospects in the interpreting field are expected to grow much faster than average until at least 2018. As a result, a number of institutions of higher learning have begun offering sign language interpretation programs. Study is usually undertaken on the undergraduate level, and may result in a bachelor’s degree or certification.

It is a two-year program that concludes with certification in American Sign Language interpretation. The program at Douglas College also helps place students in jobs upon graduation.
