Sul Ross State University offers a bachelor's degree in kinesiology and sports science, which is the study of physical education, plus a concentration in teacher certification for those who wish to teach at the elementary through high school levels. Program coursework includes motor development, theory and practice of baseball and softball, skills and techniques of team sports, athletic training practicum, teaching health in the public schools and athletic therapeutic exercise. Students are also required to take a number of physical education activities such as team sports, aquatics and individual activities. Sul Ross offers opportunities to work as an apprentice, as well as a clinical laboratory practicum to qualify for the State of Texas Examination for Licensure.

The University of New Mexico offers a variety of degrees in the physical education field, including a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education, a Master of Science in Physical Education and a Doctorate in Physical Education, Sports and Exercise. Students take coursework that includes human anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, diversity in sport and physical activity, teaching team sports, human growth and development, behavior management in physical education, and conflict mediation. While on campus, students may join the UNM Physical Education Majors Club, the Athletic Training Students Association and the Undergraduate Nutrition Student Organization. Graduates may apply for a New Mexico teaching license.

North Carolina Central University has a large selection of majors within the physical education and recreation field, with bachelor's degrees available in recreational sport management, athletic training, fitness and wellness, exercise sport science, health promotion and wellness, and licensure concentrations. Coursework varies within the major, with topics such as introduction to human nutrition, musculoskeletal anatomy, introduction to athletic training, adaptive physical education and fitness assessment exercise prescription. Students interested in participating in athletics in addition to studying them, may try out for one of North Carolina Central's teams, including tennis, basketball, bowling, volleyball and track. The school also offers booster clubs, athletic training, cheerleading and gym and fitness centers.
