Catholic Universities in the USA

The United States is home to many Catholic colleges and universities located all over the country. The National Catholic College Admission Association has more than 250 member institutions, including several universities consistently ranked among the nation's top 40 universities by "U.S. News & World Report" magazine. Catholic universities offer a wide variety of degree programs than can prepare students for further education or employment in almost any field.
  1. University of Notre Dame

    • The University of Notre Dame, commonly referred to as Notre Dame, is a private Catholic research university that was founded in 1842. The university contains seven constituent colleges and schools, including the graduate school, school of architecture, law school and colleges of science, arts and letters, business and engineering. As of 2009, the university had about 8,400 undergraduates and 3,300 graduate students. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish compete in the Big East Conference and NCAA Division I athletics. In 2010, "U.S. News & World Report" magazine ranked the University of Notre Dame 20th among the nation's universities.

    Georgetown University

    • Georgetown University, founded in 1789 and with beginnings reaching to the 17th century, is the nation's oldest Catholic university. The school continues to maintain a strong Catholic and Jesuit identity, and requires all of its students to take two classes in philosophy and theology. As of 2009, the school had about 15,300 undergraduates and 7,000 graduate students within seven schools, including Georgetown College, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the schools of law, medicine, nursing and health studies, business and foreign service. The Georgetown Hoyas compete in the Big East Conference and NCAA Division 1 athletics. In 2010, "U.S. News & World Report" magazine ranked Georgetown University 23rd among the nation's universities.

    Boston College

    • Boston College, commonly referred to as "BC," is a private Catholic research university that was founded in 1863. As of 2009, the school had about 9,000 undergraduates and 4,600 graduate students. The university contains nine colleges and schools, including the College of Arts and Sciences, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the Woods College of Advancing Studies and the schools of management, nursing, social work, law, education and theology and ministry. The Boston College Eagles compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference and NCAA Division I athletics. Boston College ranked 34th in "U.S. News & World Report" magazine's 2010 ranking of national universities.
