Drexel University's master's program in sports management can be taken on campus or online. Students in Drexel's sports management program take classes across four areas: business, marketing, law and media as they apply to sports. A master's degree candidate might take courses such as sports marketing, sports facility management and leadership in sports management. The 45-credit program includes core courses, electives and a master's thesis. Admission is open to bachelor's degree holders who have a minimum GPA of 3.0. They must interview with a faculty member and should have at least three years of full-time work experience; experience in the sports industry is not required but is recommended for applicants who did not study sports management at the undergraduate level.

The master's program in sports business at New York University (NYU) is part of the university's School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS). NYU's website notes that the M.S. in sports business is different from the M.B.A. (Master of Business Administration) degree in that the sports business degree program is industry-specific and professors have experience in the sports industry. Admitted students attend a one-week orientation before beginning their studies, to review economics and accounting skills that will be used throughout the 42-credit program. The core coursework consists of several classes in areas such as sports finance and sports event planning. Students can select from concentrations in either sports marketing and media or operations of college and professional sports organizations. The program's location in New York City, with its teams representing all the major sports leagues, affords students with many internship opportunities.
