How Can I Turn My Army Training Into College Credits?

One of the unsung perks of enlisting in the military is the ability to carry over the training you receive and convert it into college credits.

Instructions

    • 1

Acquire your full military transcripts. Depending on your branch of the military, you will either have to contact the AARTS program (Army), SMART (Navy/Marines), CCAF (Air Force) or CGI (Coast Guard).

    • 2

Locate a college that will accept your military transcripts as earned credit. Some colleges will take all your credits, while some will only take a select number. A few colleges will not take military credits of any kind.

    • 3

Talk with your college adviser and show them the transcripts. Talking with an adviser can ensure that you get the most out of your credits and don't repeat courses.

    • 4

Select a major that will best utilize your college credits. For example, a soldier who was trained to be a military police soldier can take a significant number of credits and apply them toward a Criminal Justice degree.
