Currently known as St.Petersburg-Pavlov State Medical University, this school began as a medical, legal and pedagogical learning institution in Russia. Today, SPSMU concentrates on medical education, starting with a preparatory faculty for Russian medium. It then offers general medicine, preventive medicine, advanced nursing, dentistry or sports medicine. Internal clerkships include emergency medicine, gynecology, internal medicine, neurology, obstetrics, primary care medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry and surgery. Through clerkships, students interact with physicians, residents, nurses and other medicine students. UNESCO, the World Health Organization and the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates of the USA recognize SPSMU.

Russian State Medical University, which recently turned 100, continues to provide global-standard medical education. RSMU proves to be updated despite its age and still meets the competitive demands of biomedical science and practical medicine students. RSMU offers concentrations in medical and psychological careers. Its seven faculties are therapy, pediatrics, medicobiology, dentistry, pharmacy, psychology (with social work), and Moscow (training faculty). All seven give a variety of career paths to students who want to focus on particular branches of medicine. RSMU offers education for which the Russian Federation budget or the Moscow government may pay. Russian State Medical University also has partnerships with city hospitals, maternity homes and dispensaries where students engage in internships and clerkships. UNESCO and the World Health Organization recognize RSMU.
