List of the Top Ten Universities

Global Universities releases a list of the top-100-ranked universities in the world every year. Most of the universities that make the list are private institutions, but every so often the list features a public university. The top universities are found around the globe from Asia to Europe to the United States.
  1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology

    • The world-class Massachusetts Institute of Technology teaching and research institution is located in Cambridge, Mass., and as, of 2010, tops the list as the top university in the world. MIT has more than 10,000 students and was established in 1861. MIT focuses on technological and scientific research.

    California Institute of Technology

    University of Tokyo

    • The University of Tokyo, in Tokyo, Japan, is often abbreviated as Todai. The University of Tokyo has nearly 30,000 students, and it was established in 1877. It was the first national university in Japan. Todai is a major research university and has several institutes for research.
