The Department of English at the University of Florida offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Students in the graduate program can choose from three degree tracks: a Master of English, Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and Ph.D. in English. The undergraduate program has several areas in which to focus, including communication and creative writing, media theory, literary study and cultural studies. An independent study program, available every semester, gives students the opportunity to take on real-world work experience or a major-specific project not covered in the general curriculum. Among the program's faculty is a winner of the Kodak Promising Filmmaker Prize, five Guggenheim Fellows and a PEN/Faulkner Prize finalist.
