Located just north of Chicago, Northwestern University's School of Engineering offers a master of science in biotechnology. This program combines bio-process engineering with biology courses and is administered by Northwestern's Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. Students participate in biotech research projects, directed by Northwestern faculty across several departments. Students average approximately 1,000 hours of hands-on research over the course of the program. In addition, the school's internship program gives students practical industry experience. Upon graduation, a full-time industry liaison assists students with career placement. Northwestern offers students two full-time biotechnology student tracks. The first is a 15-month degree program. The second is a 21-month degree program that includes an industry internship. In addition, a part-time student program is offered; however, this eligibility is considered on a case-by-case basis.
