Choose an accredited CNA training program that is approved by the state of Missouri. A list is provided in references. Most training programs are offered at community colleges or vocational-technical schools, though some online courses are available. Missouri requires CNA students to receive 75 hours of classroom instruction and complete 100 hours of on-the-job training.
Complete the CNA course, which includes classroom work and clinical training. You will complete courses in "basic nursing skills; fire safety; disaster training; resident safety and rights; and social and psychological problems of residents and the methods of caring for mentally confused residents, such as those with Alzheimer's disease," according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
Take the CNA Challenge, which allows you to take the state exam without first taking the required Missouri CHA training program, if you have received CNA training or its equivalent in another state or country, or meet other special criteria. See the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services CNA web page for complete details.
Register for and take the Missouri CNA exam. When you pass this exam, you will be listed as active on the Missouri state CNA registry. Employers will check the registry to see that you have completed CNA training and passed the exam. You will be able to work in nursing homes, hospitals, doctors' offices, and other medical care facilities once you are certified.
