Online CACREP Schools

The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs, called CACREP, offers accreditation to graduate programs, indicating to prospective students that such programs offer relevant, effective and professional education. Since CACREP certification also requires that the school obtain institutional accreditation, students can feel confident that such programs present quality information, even in an online format.
  1. Program Highlights

    • Online CACREP programs offer majors in various counseling professions such as counselor education and supervision; marriage, couple and family counseling; mental health counseling; and school counseling. Degrees include both master's and doctoral level at schools such as Walden University, Regent University, Grace College and Seminary, and Capella University. Students generally take online courses and then apply the concepts in field work, culminating in residency work in their local area. CACREP standards require minimum course credits, such as 60 for the Clinical Mental Health degree, for example, and a minimum number of practicum and internship hours. The advantages of choosing a CACREP accredited online school are multifold. For instance, the institution must provide appropriate financial support to the program, have a maximum 6-to-1 instructor-to-student ratio, and hire experienced faculty. Students can find the most current list of online programs with CACREP accreditation from the CACREP site.
