Community Colleges in Boise, Idaho

Community colleges, also known as technical schools or junior colleges, offer certificates, diplomas, and associate and bachelor degree programs. These range from one to four years. Many community college credentials can be transferred into a four-year degree program at a college or university. Smaller class sizes and lower tuition rates make community colleges a viable alternative to more advanced post-secondary institutions. There are currently four community colleges in Boise, Idaho.
  1. College of Western Idaho

    • The College of Western Idaho has multiple locations in Nampa, Idaho, in addition to Boise. Associate of arts and associate of science degrees are offered with majors in biology, business, communication, criminal justice, education, liberal arts, psychology, sociology, English and political science. Technical certificate and professional degree programs are also available. These include administration, accounting, automotive technology and maintenance, culinary arts, dental assisting, drafting technology, early childhood education, electronics, truck driving, welding, horticulture, information technology, nursing, surgical technology and fire management.

    Apollo College

    • Apollo College is a career-oriented post-secondary institution that focuses on professional training. It has additional campuses in New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, Washington and Oregon. Nine programs are available at its Boise location: dental assisting and hygiene, massage therapy, medical administration and billing, medical assisting, practical and registered nursing and pharmacy technician training.

    ITT Technical Institute

    • The ITT Technical Institute has over 100 locations in over 30 states. The Boise campus focuses exclusively on technology-oriented career training. Both associate and bachelor degrees are available in a range of subject areas. These include information systems, software engineering and development, electronics engineering, construction management, multimedia and digital arts, game design, criminal justice, paralegal studies and nursing.

    Brown Mackie College

    • In addition to its campus in Boise, Brown Mackie College has locations in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma and South Carolina. A range of associate-level degrees, certificates and diplomas is available. Programs include accounting, audio and video technology, business, criminal justice, health care administration, information technology, legal studies, medical assisting, occupational therapy, paralegal studies and surgical technology. Brown Mackie College follows a unique "one course a month" format in which students focus on one subject at a time and complete courses by month rather than by semester.
