The cost of education is an important factor to most people. A military education does not cost any money. Instead, you sign a contract for a certain amount of time, ranging from two to six years, in exchange for learning the particular skill. During this time, you will be putting your skills to use while working.
While in college for four years you can easily change your mind on which type of degree you want. In the military, you have to complete the training for the Military Occupational Specialty, the job or area you will be getting trained in. For most jobs in the military, the training is less than a year.
When getting a military education, you must complete basic training in one of five posts before you learn your actual skill for the job. When choosing a college to go to you can pretty much go wherever you want to go. Some people use this as an opportunity to move away from home.
After completion of any education, the goal is usually to find a job. Finding a job after college usually depends on your experience through internships and how good your grades were. In the military, when you finish Advanced Individual Training, you are assigned to a unit for a job immediately.
