A baccalaureate degree in business education is generally awarded as a bachelor of science (B.S.) degree. Candidates usually must complete all of their institution's general education requirements as well as all requirements for both a business degree and a degree in education. Often, a semester of teacher training is a required component of the degree program.
The master's degree in business education is available even to students who have completed their undergraduate degrees in a subject other than business education, Students whose baccalaureate degrees are in either business or education will, of course, qualify. An advanced degree in business education will provide additional training as well as the opportunity to apply your skills and knowledge through internships or cooperative training ventures with businesses and nonprofit organizations.
After you've completed your bachelor's or master's degree in business administration, you can seek a teaching license to enable you to become an educator in the field. Teacher training programs will build on your previous education and experience. As teaching licensure requirements vary widely by state, your individual program will depend on where you live. All states do require that teachers complete a licensing program that includes a supervised period of practice teaching. Some states have additional requirements; such as completion of a technology program, a certain grade point average, or agreeing to obtain a master's degree within a specified time period.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, teaching jobs are projected to grow by about 13 percent between 2008 and 2018. However, the openings for teachers with a background in math and science are projected to grow a bit faster. A business educator who is also well-versed in high school math concepts will increase his chances of being hired, as will one with a willingness to relocate in order to teach in inner-city schools, says the BLS.
