Colleges in the Denver Area

Denver, the mile-high city, and its surrounding area boast several colleges and universities. According to July 2008 census data, Denver had a population of just 598,707. Surrounding the city, however, is a thriving metro area that is home to more than 2.8 million people. Data shows 39.5 percent of all residents of the Denver metro area have a bachelor's degree or higher. Colorado also ranks eighth in the nation for number of Ph.D. Scientists and engineers, and most live in the Denver metro area.
  1. Arapahoe Community College

    • Arapahoe community college (or ACC), located on the south end of the Denver metro area in Littleton, Colorado, offers more than 130 degree and certificate programs. The school offers associate degrees in arts, science, general studies and applied science, as well as dozens of certificates. Some of the specific degrees are in nursing, criminal justice, game design and development, mortuary services and accounting. Many of the course credits at ACC have guaranteed transfer to other Colorado universities due to a state law passed in by the Colorado General Assembly in 2001.

    Colorado School of Mines

    • Students looking for engineering or applied science degrees should look no further than the Colorado School of Mines, or Mines as the locals call it. Highly selective of its students, this school maintains a student body of 4,800. The student-to-teacher ratio is 14 to 1, and the average undergraduate class size is 33 students. Mines leads the way in curriculum and research that emphasizes responsible care of the earth and its resources.

    University of Denver

    • The University of Denver offers both undergraduate and graduate-level courses. DU offers degrees in the arts, business, education and law. Various prestigious publications continually rank DU highly for part-time and full-time MBA programs. In 2010, U.S. News and World Report ranked DU's Daniels School of Business as the number 70 best part-time MBA program. In 2009, Beyond Grey Pinstripes/The Aspen Institute ranked DU third in the world for small MBA Programs. DU also has an exceptional athletic program with 20 NCAA national championships in skiing and seven NCAA national championships in ice hockey.

    University of Colorado

    • The state's flagship public university is in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. Boulder is on the far northwest corner of the Denver metro area. The University of Colorado, or CU, has a campus in both Boulder and Denver. CU offers degrees in architecture, arts, business, education and journalism. Professors and research faculty from CU have won Nobel Prizes. CU boasts two Nobel Prizes for physics, one for chemistry, and several members of the research faculty shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with former U.S. Vice-President Al Gore.
