The state of New Jersey has enacted a program where certain students who qualify can attend a public institution of higher education in New Jersey tuition free on a space-available basis, according to the New Jersey City University. In addition, qualifying students may be able to have certain fees reduced or waived, such as textbook costs, application fees and administrative fees.
In order to qualify for this program, present certification from the state labor department to the university that you qualify for the benefits. This is essentially to show the university that you are not employed at the time of applying to colleges. Additionally, you must show that you have had a past presence in the labor force for a minimum of two years.
If you qualify for these benefits and are therefore attending college on a tuition-free basis, keep in mind the restrictions. You are allowed to sign up for courses only on the second day of that semester, on a space-available basis. You are also required to maintain a grade of C or better in every class you attend (not an average). If you withdraw from the courses you've sign up for, you also forfeit your right to the benefits.
