To become a pediatric sleep technician, you must already have completed a one-year course in polysomnography at a licensed or credentialed teaching institution, or you must have been a sleep trainee with at least six months of experience in direct patient care.
Material covered in sleep technician training includes the history of sleep medicine, pediatric sleep, positive airway pressure, sleep studies, performing polysomnography, sleep deprivation, anatomy and physiology, and movement disorders and seizures. There is no separate credential available specializing in only pediatric sleep.
Pediatric Sleep Training is available at accredited schools of sleep medicine, including the School of Sleep Medicine associated with Stanford University in Palo Alto, California; the Atlanta School of Sleep Medicine and Technology; the Division of Sleep Medicine at the Harvard Medical School; the Mid-Atlantic School of Sleep Medicine in Mount Laurel, New Jersey; and the Texas School of Sleep Medicine and Technology in San Antonio.
